The Global Shapers Community-Kampala is an affiliate of the World Economic Forum which was founded in 2011. It is a network of young people all over the world who are working together to address local, regional and global challenges through driving dialogue, action and change. With over 7000 members, the Global Shapers Community spans 377 city-based hubs in 157 countries worldwide. In each city, teams of global shapers organize to create projects that address the needs of their community. Here in Uganda, the Kampala Hub is made up of almost 30 members from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for community development and civic engagement.
As Global Shapers, we are committed to breaking down the barriers that hamper the success of people in our communities. One of our areas of interest is in education. To that regard, we are developing different projects aimed at breaking down the barriers that hinder children from achieving quality education and barriers that facilitate high failure rates. Our newest project is a literacy project in Gayaza Kadogo Church of Uganda Primary School. This was one of the schools that had an over 80% failure rate which the administration attributed to poor literacy rates.
We have a fundraiser for the project on Friday 29thth June 2018 at Tech Hub on Park Royale Building, Buganda Road. Please come through and party with the Shapers as we fundraise for this very necessary cause. After the fundraiser, we shall launch the project at the school and pilot it throughout the rest of 2018. Our budget is 7,850,000 which includes buying books for the school and taking motivational speakers for the children and teachers, among other things. If you are unable to come for the fundraiser, you can still send your donation by mobile money to 0774535545 or 0702535545 (Name: Niwagaba Byagaba Roland. Reason: Shaper Literacy Project)
As an influential person/company in Kampala, we believe that your support would go a long way in not only improving the lives of the children in Gayaza Kadogo Primary School but also in setting the foundation for future schools that similar projects will reach out to. If you are interested in exploring different ways you can support this project, reach out to Winnie, the project lead, on +256 778 121938. We hope you will be able to participate in this exciting new Global Shapers venture.
